7th National Handloom Day

To mark the commencement of the Swadesh Andolan on 7th August in 1905, the Government of India has decided in 2015 to celebrate 7th August every year as the National Handloom Day. The 7th National Handloom Day shall be celebrated on 7th August 2021 in honour of the handloom weavers/workers in India and their unique contribution to the socio-cultural development of the country.

The Prime Minister of India in his address in 'Mann ki Baat" on 25th July, 2021, has talked about celebrating the National Handloom Day.  Handloom is an important source of livelihood in rural and semi-rural parts of India.  It is a sector that directly addresses women's empowerment with over 70% of all weavers and allied workers being female.
