Shri Om Birla, Speaker, Lok Sabha led a 12-member delegation to Tanzania from 18-19 January 2023 at the invitation of Speaker of National Assembly of Tanzania H.E. Dr. Tulia Ackson. Other members of Indian delegation included Mr. Utpal Kumar Singh, Secretary General, Lok Sabha, Mr. Chirag Kumar Paswan, MP (Lok Sabha), Mr. Manojkumar Kishorkumar Kotak, MP, (Lok Sabha), Ms. S. Phangnon Konyak, MP (Rajya Sabha) and senior officials from the Parliament.
Speaker Lok Sabha was warmly welcomed by Deputy Speaker of National Assembly H.E. Mussa Azan Zungu & the High Commissioner of India on arrival at Julius Nyerere International Airport in Dar es Salaam on 18th January 2023.

Speaker Lok Sabha held detailed discussions with Speaker of National Assembly of Tanzania H.E. Dr. Tulia Ackson, on 18th January 2023 in Dar es Salaam. Speaker of House of Representative of Zanzibar Mr. Zubeir Ali Maulid also joined the meeting. The two sides had fruitful interactions covering range of issues i.e. regular Parliamentary exchanges, sharing of best practices in parliamentary spheres and issues of mutual interest on trade & investment, development partnership & capacity building, education, agriculture, health, culture were discussed. Acknowledging that Parliamentary institutions are nodal pillars of democratic governance the two sides agreed to increase the frequency of parliamentary exchanges to further boost India-Tanzania bilateral relations. Speaker of the National Assembly Dr. Tulia Ackson hosted a lunch in honour of the Speaker and the members of Indian delegation.

 

Speaker Lok Sabha met the Prime Minister of Tanzania H.E. Kassim Majaliwa Majaliwa during which they discussed entire gamut of bilateral relations.

 

Speaker Lok Sabha had brief interaction with Minister of Foreign Affairs H.E. Dr. Stergomena Tax. Speaker expressed satisfaction over the Parliamentary delegation visit to Tanzania.

 

Speaker Lok Sabha addressed a gathering of Tanzania India Business Forum (TIBF), which has been working for promotion of bilateral trade and investment since 2013. Speaker encouraged TIBF to work for further enhancing bilateral trade and also to bring new generation of entrepreneur from both sides as stakeholders of India-Tanzania economic engagement.

 

Speaker Lok Sabha interacted with a group of Tanzanian alumni of Indian institutes at the High Commission of India. The alumni shared their fond experiences of education in India and how it played crucial role in their lives.

 

Speaker interacted with members of Indian diaspora in an event hosted by High Commission of India. Speaker thanked the Indian community for their role in building India’s profile and reputation in Tanzania and for their contribution in strengthening India-Tanzania relations.

 

Speaker and the Indian delegation also visited Serengeti National Park where the park authorities briefed them about the Serengeti National Park and the best practices adopted by Tanzania for wildlife conservation.
The Indian parliamentary delegation was given a warm send-off by Speaker of National Assembly Dr. Tulia Ackson. The parliamentary delegation visit to Tanzania was highly successful. Both countries reaffirmed to strengthen parliamentary relations.
