July 2022

(i) A painting exhibition "Rhythms of India" by Indian Artist Mr Narendar Reddy was organised at the High Commission of India from 3-6 July 2022. The exhibition was inaugurated on 3rd July by former Prime Minister of Tanzania, H.E. Mizengo Pinda.
20 paintings made by Tanzanian artists under the guidance of Mr Reddy at the 4 days Art Workshop at Swami Vivekananda Culture Centre from 27-30 June 2022 were also displayed at the exhibition.

(ii) High Commission in association with Dar Indian Women's Association (DIWA) organized 'Food n Fun Mela' on 23 July 2022. 20 food & handicrafts stalls displaying handicraft items from India and Tanzania were set up at Swami Vivekananda Cultural Centre in Dar es Salaam.

 


(iii) High Commission in association with Odia Samaj of Dar es Salaam organized a blood donation camp on 24th July 2022 at Lohana Samaj Hall in Dar es Salaam.

August 2022

(Mission celebrated Azadi Ka Amritsav Mahotsav- Iconic Week from 13 to 20 August 2022)
(i) A Gujarati Cultural event in association with Hindu Council of Tanzania was organized at Swami Vivekananda Cultural Centre on 6 August 2022. Folklore dances from different regions of Gujarat were staged. A total number of 150 participants performed different genres of Gujrati dances like Mandvi, Gajiyo, Talvar Raas, Hudo, Dandia Raas, Garba Raas, Tippani raas and Taali Raas. Tanzanian martial artists mesmerised the audience with Talvar dance.

(ii) A Fancy Dress Competition for children was organized in association with Dar Indian Women's Association at High Commission of India on 13th August 2022. Children dressed up as Indian National leaders, freedom fighters, Gods and Goddesses from Indian Mythology.

(iii)Amruta Vandana - an event highlighting India's glorious culture was organized in association with BAPS Swaminarayan Sanstha at Swami Vivekananda Cultural Centre (SVCC), Dar es Salaam on 13 August 2022.

(iv) High Commission of India (HCI) in association with BAPS Swaminarayan Sanstha organized a Charity Walk from Swami Narayan Temple, Kisutu to Swami Vivekananda Cultural Centre on 14 August 2022. 1000 participants including small children completed the 8 km long walk holding the Indian National Flag.

(v) On 15 August 2022, High Commission of India celebrated 76th Independence Day of India with great patriotic fervour and gaiety. About 600 guests from Indian diaspora including leaders of Indian communities attended the celebrations at SVCC Dar es Salaam.

(vi) High Commissioner Binaya Srikanta Pradhan accompanied by HCI officials visited the Commonwealth War Graves in Dar es Salaam and laid a wreath in honour of Indian soldiers who fought and sacrificed their lives; about 3000 Indian soldiers are cremated in different parts of Tanzania.

(vii) High Commission of India in association with Indian diaspora organization 'Kalamandalam' organized a cultural event on 15 August 2022 at Aga Khan Diamond Jubilee Hall in Dar es Salaam to celebrate 75th anniversary of India's Independence. H.E. Innocent Bashungwa, Minister of State in the President's Office was the Chief Guest. Kassim Mbundwike (Boxing- Bronze), Yusuf Changalawe (Boxing- Bronze) and Alphonse Simbu (Men's marathon - Silver) Commonwealth games 2022 medallists from Tanzania were honoured at the event.

(viii) Swami Vivekananda Cultural Centre and Maharashtra Mandal jointly organized a live concert by famous singer Mr. Nitin Dawar at National Museum Auditorium in Dar es Salaam on 17 August 2022. Audience enjoyed gazals, patriotic, devotional and motivational songs by Nitin Dawar.

(ix) High Commission of India in association with Indian diaspora organization 'Kalakendra' organized a mega cultural event to celebrate 75th anniversary of India's Independence on 20th August in Arusha. Regional Commissioner of Arusha H.E. John Mongela inaugurated the event along with High Commissioner Mr. Binaya Srikanta Pradhan, H.E. Mrisho Gambo, Member of Parliament from Arusha, Mr. Chitukuro, Arusha City Director and Mr. Emmanuel Luoga, Vice Chancellor of Nelson Mandela Institute of Science & Technology, Arusha. The event showcasing India's vivid culture, rich heritage and unity in diversity was attended by over 1400 people and watched by more than 1000 people online. On the occasion, High Commissioner also donated books to some local government and international schools for their libraries.

(x) Swami Vivekananda Cultural Centre (SVCC) in association with Indian diaspora organization Hindi Hain Ham organized a 'Laughter and Poetry' show at SVCC on 20 August 2022. Famous poets from India Mr. Shambhu Shikhar, Mr. Amit Sharma and Ms. Ekta Bharti participated in the event.

(xi) High Commission of India organized an interactive session on ‘Freedom and Spirituality’ with Gurudev Sri Sri Ravishankar at India House on 26 August 2022. Tanzanian dignitaries, Ambassadors of foreign Missions & Indian Community leaders attended the event.

September 2022

(i) High Commission organized a Qawwali Night at Diamond Jubilee Hall in Dar es Salaam on 9 September 2022. ICCR sponsored 6 member Qawwali team led by Syed Nasir Husain mesmerized the audience with their Qawwali performance. The event was attended by a large gathering of diaspora members.

(ii) Hindi Diwas was celebrated with lot of enthusiasm and varieties of cultural performances at Swami Vivekananda Cultural Centre, Dar es Salaam in association with Swarnganga Tanzania on 17 September 2022. A special drama on Life of Bhagat Singh and other revolutionaries to commemorate Azadi ka Amrit Mahotsav was the highlight of the event. The programme concluded with prize distribution to winners of various competitions conducted under banner of Hindi Diwas.

(iii) High Commission of India in collaboration with Institute of Social and Cultural Studies (ISCS) and National Museum of Tanzania organized a 2-day International Conference on "India-Tanzania Relations: An Overview" from 30 September to 1 October 2022. The conference was inaugurated by Amb Liberata Mulamula, Minister of Foreign Affairs & EAC of Tanzania.

October 2022

(i) High Commission of India celebrated 153rd birth anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi at the University of Dar es Salaam on 2 October 2022. High Commissioner Binaya Srikanta Pradhan paid respects and offered floral tributes to Mahatma Gandhi and Mwalimu Julius Nyerere. He was joined by distinguished guests, representatives from University of Dar es Salaam, High Commission staff and Indian Community in Dar es Salaam. Students of Indian School, Dar es Salaam and music teachers from Swami Vivekananda Cultural Centre sang melodious bhajans on the occasion.

(ii)On 2nd October 2022, High Commission in collaboration with ICCR arranged a virtual narration by Dr. Shobhana Radhakrishna on 'Mahatma Gandhi's Global Leadership for Peace, Non-Violence & Satyagraha'. Youtube link of the narration - https://youtu.be/gqJpizHpPK8

(iii) Under Special Campaign for Cleanliness 2.0, High Commission team undertook cleaning of Chancery premises on 21st October 2022.

(iv) High Commission celebrated Diwali on 23rd October 2022 at Swami Vivekananda Cultural Centre. 600 friends from Tanzania, Diplomatic Corps, Indian diaspora joined in the cultural event. Indian Tanzanian musical fusion and fireworks were appreciated by the guests.

(v) High Commission organized a Unity Run on 29 October 2022 to commemorate birth anniversary of Sardar Vallabh Bhai Patel. 250 runners participated in the 4km run from Swami Vivekananda Cultural Centre to Sea Cliff Hotel.
